Transforming New Spaces: A Journey to Declutter and Organize

Updated: Sep 17

Defining Your Space

New spaces can be just as challenging as overcrowded ones. This is especially true in a newer home with a growing family. In this case, the challenge was defining the space. The basement was obviously important for the serious Hot Wheels enthusiast, but with company coming, we needed to contain the creativity a bit.

In this large area, we created distinct zones for play and relaxation. An adult-friendly space was established, and a couch is on the way to replace the camping chairs.

Using existing furniture, I added height-friendly containers, baskets, and some hanging "garage" storage. I arranged all the playthings along the back of the room for easier access. This setup also created a little separation behind the soon-to-be new seating.

Organizing the Catch-All Closet

This house also featured a catch-all closet that needed some serious love. I organized the closet by grouping similar items together. This simple step makes a world of difference!

In addition, the garage required some shelving. I installed a portable, sturdy shelf to maximize the space.

Maintaining Your Organized Space

Once new spaces are defined and like items are grouped together, the foundation is set for easy maintenance. You can now enjoy your organized spaces without the stress of clutter.

So, go ahead and flaunt those closets and storage nooks to your guests—you're ready to impress!
